Media Appearances On Assange's Freedom: BreakThrough News, Guest Hosting on Status Coup, Journalist Roundtable
Here's a collection of several shows I did this past week on WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's freedom.
To report or discuss the end of the political prosecution against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, I appeared on several shows. Here are some of them collected in one location for those interested.
BreakThrough News
Eugene Puryear, co-host of BreakThrough News’ “The Freedom Side,” spoke with me about what led to Assange’s freedom. This show invited me on numerous times in the past five years to share my journalism with their viewers, and it was a joy to return to the show to mark the end of the case.
(Although, I was disappointed that I could not celebrate with my friend and “Freedom Side” co-host Rania Khalek. She was on vacation.)
Status Coup
Jordan Chariton, host of “Status Coup,” often had me on his show to discuss Assange news. He graciously invited me on his channel to do a live broadcast that outlined much of what led to the negotiated plea deal. I reacted to several clips, including one of State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller lying about the harm done by WikiLeaks.
During the final half, I welcomed Chip Gibbons, the policy director for Defending Rights and Dissent, who helped me dig even deeper into this incredible outcome.
Richard Medhurst
Richard Medhurst organized a journalist roundtable with reporters who had worked diligently to cover the Assange case. Joe Lauria, Cathy Vogan, Tareq Haddad, Taylor Hudak, Mohamed Elmaazi, and I were all part of the exhaustive panel discussion, where we shared our perspectives on the outcome and experiences from reporting on this legal saga.
Dangerous Ideas
Another person who consistently invited me on their show to talk all things Assange is comedian and political commentator Lee Camp. I joined him on his show, which you can find here.
CovertAction Bulletin
Rachel Hu and Chris Garaffa had me on their show, “CovertAction Bulletin.” They offered me plenty of time to share my thoughts about the significance of this victory, which a movement made possible. Listen here.
Darker Than Blue
I joined Jacqueline Luqman and Sean Blackmon for their show, “Darker Than Blue” on Black Liberation Media. The conversation offered me an opportunity to discuss how activists might learn from what helped free Assange and apply that to winning freedom for political prisoners like Mumia Abu-Jamal and Leonard Peltier.
And then finally…
I’ll include the livestream that I did with former CIA officer and whistleblower John Kiriakou and Chip Gibbons the night that the news broke that Assange would be a free man. We were definitely caught up in a swirl of emotion, trying to make sense of it all while also expressing relief that the prosecution had ended.
Great< thank you!
Everyone is so happy and smiling and shiny... Team Assange has been transformed by what we endured ✊️✊️❤️❤️
