A programming note for new and longtime readers

It’s Kevin Gosztola. Thanks for subscribing to receive my stuff and things.

Before the end of the year, Shadowproof, the media organization that I co-founded, shut down. I returned to Substack to use Notes and the platform’s chat feature to share my work.

I also decided to make this a one-stop shop where someone could find everything that I write, record, or produce.

Most of you probably subscribed to follow my reporting on Julian Assange, WikiLeaks, and the US government’s wider war on whistleblowers. That reporting is published regularly at The Dissenter. (Subscribe here). 

I plan to continue to keep producing the weekly podcast, “Unauthorized Disclosure,” that I have co-hosted for more than 10 years. That is available at The Dissenter, Patreon, or YouTube.

In 20223, I launched a movie publication at Medium called The Wide Shot that seeks to expand the conversation around Hollywood and movies from the past and present (because I’m an avid movie fan).

I’m going to use this Substack to share snippets from all these platforms, where I’m publishing work. I expect some of you will say what you write about movies isn’t for me. Ignore those posts. Other subscribers may like the combination of content.

This Substack will never be a Substack that asks you to pay to receive posts. (I explained why here.)

I may encourage readers leave small one-time donations or tips (here), but I refuse to let Substack have any percent of the income that I derive from people graciously subscribing to my work.

What I do through The Dissenter and “Unauthorized Disclosure” will remain possible if and only if people like you subscribe directly, which several of you already do. Exclusive content will be available at The Dissenter website and on Patreon for those willing to step up and fund independent journalism.

Again, seeing how I sometimes publish a high volume of material in a short time span, this Substack should be useful for those trying to follow most if not all that I publish.

In the coming months, I may want to write something that does not fit at The Dissenter or my movie publication. So, I’ll share those miscellaneous posts through this Substack.
