Police and federal agents fired crowd-control weapons at several reporters covering protests against Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in Los Angeles County, California.
Horrendous. God help those poor reporters trying to do their job. And everyone else there I'm afraid the US is one country I don't want to visit while the present regime is in power.

They deliberately shot at one of our channel 9 reporters on the ground reporting. I was watching as it happened and thought it was a replay of a previous incident but as it happened I was watching it live. Was crazy. The guy just turns around and shoots right at her 🤷🏻♀️
...And a CNN reporter was detained too. Officer/agent took his hands, pressed them on his back like he was being arrested, and then walked him away from the protest he was covering. All of this is so outrageous
It is getting so out of hand. Trump was set to be there to cause unrest and do all the things that those in power really want to do, but needed someone in power position who did not care what the world thinks of him. It is horrendous to watch and I wonder where it will end. I see it pulling the people together rather than sewing division. But the lack of trust in police and national guard and military/marines is now going to be zero.
It’s not going to end well is how I see it. You have a few more years left of Trump... a shame the national guard did not have the balls to detain Trump and associates and support the protest.
As I said, not every schmuck with a camera is a reporter, and none of the schmucks in that crowd added anything whatsoever to understanding what was happening right in front of them. You guys point a camera in the general direction of a crowd and cherry-pick some minor incident that makes the cops look bad, but did you even try to find out where the "protestors" came from? Of course not, because you're just a bunch of schmucks with cameras.
Yes, same happened with reporters from my part of the corner of the world, Scandinavia covering the US. I am sorry to say but no other Western country does our journalists get attacked and get treated so poorly.
The US is not normal. There is just no respect for journalists or foreigners. This is not entirely new. It has been developing over years. Love a lot of Americans. Had many good times there, but American border guards, police, security. Just scum. Not going back ever until the US gets serious about having their police, military, boarder guards etc showing some respect for human dignity.
the role of the reporter is not to be the subject of their stories (unless you're writing Gonzo journalism) - they were there reporting on police violence against protestors - that's the story - it needs to be worked into this story about reporters doing their jobs and getting hit by crossfire - or as you story proports to show with no evidence - that they were being targeted by police on orders from their commanders or nasty individuals in the police line (which I'm seeing lots of).
I’m not excusing anyone’s actions. Just inserting some common sense. This being “part of the story” BS wore out when Hunter Thompson went south. Were these two guilty of that? Don’t know. Just calling for a bit of common sense.
Maybe they wanted to get hit by tear gas so they could have something to post. Or maybe you should STFU. I don’t know. Just thinking aloud about this First Amendment stuff.
Could be. Doubt it though. Just in wrong place at wrong time. Obviously. 1A has nothing to do with it, unless they were actually targeted for being journalists, but some proof would be incumbent.
Why? It is perfectly possible to do this kind of coverage in other countries. But we have seen since the first Trump administration that US police and security forces directly attack journalists.
Of course nothing will ever improve because Americans think their violent police is a normal ting and that it doesn't need to change.
My apologies. I know at least half of you strongly object to this, but I have noticed that among conservative Americans there is a disturbingly large number of people who will line up to defend US police and military no matter how violent or out of line they are.
Well I guess unless some oat-keepers or proud boys get arrested. Then I am sure they will cry police violence instantly.
It certainly is not possible. But if any administration is purposely targeting journalists, either through police action or threats to prosecute (Obama), it’s a very bad thing, but also requires proof nit just assertions.
The police here have been militarized over the last several decades, but the protesters have some agency in this. They are not universally innocent bystanders. Both sides must be held responsible for their actions, not just the authorities.
Oh, those guys are already suing the government for wrongful imprisonment or something. And the govt is paying the family of the insurrectionist b**** who was killed assaulting capitol police $5 million. The capitol police who were killed, injured and traumatized got nothing. You have no idea how excrable this regime is👹
I’ve been around as long as you, grew up in the Bay Area, and am no stranger to demonstrations gone wrong. There have been many execrable administrations. This one’s just less subtle.
Rachel, I kinda was. I was reminding a fellow Boomer that we've been here before and have seen pretty bad s***, as well as an unbroken downward trend for at least 40 years. IMHO, and as I've said elsewhere, if Trump is chopping down the house, he's wielding the ax his predecessors sharpened. But then again, I call myself a Classical Liberal (little "L" libertarian) but I'm beginning to become more of a political misanthrope.
"Reporter" meaning anybody with a tiny camera on his or her mobile phone. They walk into a riot zone and expect to be treated like Walter Cronkite, but boo hoo, one of them gets mussed in the fray.
Eh yeah because you can do that in other countries. But in the US we notice with our journalists going over there that there seems to be little respect for journalists. American police and security forces are just totally out of control.
It is increasingly like sending reporters into a dictatorship to report. Just totally sad.
Jacob... did you even watch the footage... they are in a row and he turns around and deliberately shoots her and they are not with the protest crowd... they are obviously in a camera and press zone away from where they should be being shot at or seen as a threat.
Well she is a journalist.. but is our channel 9 correspondent who does the reports on our morning news and such... they obviously have a whole journalistic team and full cameras etc... it was not a report being done by a random with a phone... no... she is a journalist employed to do the reporting
Horrendous. God help those poor reporters trying to do their job. And everyone else there I'm afraid the US is one country I don't want to visit while the present regime is in power.

Our Australian reporters I am talking about, for anyone reading this who obviously doesn’t know I am down under here

I don’t normally share CNN .. but here I am .

The people are not being listened to. Period!

The Governor could have refused, taken a stand, met with journalists to explain the structure.
Anybody with any lick of sense would have been outa there once the first brick or bottle flew. They can do their job from a distance.
Yeah, nope
Why? Being in close proximity to rioters raises the chances of getting caught up in any police response. What does it add to the story?
Well alright. That settles it.

I’m sorry, but we do not think this is normal! Maybe the current regime and its sycophants do, but most of us are just as disgusted as you are. 👹

Umm. I don’t think you were actually replying to me. I pretty much agree with your comments. 👹

You sure are! And yes, every pres. in our lifetime has played his part. I was furious at Obama for the bank bailout. 👹
Same here. The "Toxic Asset Recovery Program" never bought a single toxic asset. Just paper. I was all for letting every one of them fail.
But Obama did more violence to our country & Constitution than that. Same with Biden. And Trump. And Bush. Not sure how, but I miss both Ron AND Bill.
